Advent means coming.
When the days get shorter and the weather gets colder, the church colors turn to purple and the Spirit calls us into a new and different season. In this unique season we remember that the Israelites were awaiting the coming of the Messiah. We remember the challenges of waiting. As well, we remember that 2000 years later, we continue to await the return of that Messiah. We are in the same boat. So with expectant hearts, we wait. I encourage you to do whatever you can during this season of waiting to find time every day to slow things down. Sit for bit and don’t accomplish anything. Listen to music, breathe deeply, take note of the life that might have passed you by. Spend some time listening to the voices of your community as they read and reflect on our podcast. Embrace the in-between nature of our lives, what Tolkien referred to as Middle Earth. Acknowledge the way that Jesus has met some of your deepest longings, as well sit with the longing that still exists as we all wait for all things to be made new. Embrace the discomfort and welcome the Peace this season. Notice the dankness as we await the light of the dawn. Real life has always been about holding the tension.

2022 DIY Ornaments
Much like an Advent Calendar, FPC offers Advent ornaments corresponding to the scripture in the FPC podcast. Perhaps color the ornament while you listen to that day’s podcast. Then hang your ornament in a garland or individually or on your Christmas tree.
Advent Countdown Chain
An old favorite! Print and assemble this countdown chain and read the scripture each day of Advent.
Tip: Print pages 1-2 on one color paper, and pages 3-4 on another color – the finished chain will alternate colors.
