FPC Bellingham and the PC(USA) 10-A Amendment

The following is an official statement from the elders of First Presbyterian Church of Bellingham, regarding the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s Book of Order Amendment 10-A. Please contact Pastor Doug Bunnell with further questions.

The Elders of FPC are wrestling with the upcoming changes in our denomination (PCUSA) and lament the removal of the words “fidelity” and “chastity” from our constitution. In the interest of unity, and in accordance with the option given to individual Sessions, the Elders have pledged to devote the next year to faithfully praying and studying scripture so as to make a wise and biblical response to these and other changes.  During this time, they will use the current Book of Order 2009-2011 (copyright @ 2009) as the standing rule that states that all officers must live in “fidelity within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, and chastity in singleness.”
