Organist & Accompanist
Tammy Rutgers began accompanying hymns in elementary school in Western Michigan, choirs in junior high, and congregational singing as church organist in high school. Ever since, she’s never been far from a keyboard, a choir, or both! Tammy received her B.A. in communications from Dordt College, Sioux Center, Iowa and also met the love of her life, Gerald Rutgers, while working the Sunday shift at the college radio station KDCR. She and her husband served pastorates in West Michigan, Wisconsin and Arizona before moving to Lynden in 1995 with their four children, three of whom remain in Northwest Washington.
In addition to assisting Gerald’s ministry at Hopewell Community Church near Everson, Tammy currently maintains a private piano studio in Lynden and accompanies Lynden Christian grades 7-12 choirs, as well as accompanying FPC’s choir since 2011. She also loves singing in and assisting Lynden Choral Society with Gerald as choir director, and invites all of you to the annual Christmas and spring performances of Handel’s Messiah!
Tammy’s previous Bellingham connections have included St. Joseph Hospital medical transcription for 15 years and Bellingham Festival Chorus for six years. She is now thankful to be a part of classical worship through organ, piano and choir here at FPC, and deeply appreciates her brothers and sisters in Christ who have maintained such a faithful witness to the Bellingham community for over 100 years! Soli Deo Gloria!
